What? Brown Rice?

Recently I read a quote that briefly said that woman of the house that is responsible for the nutrition of the home. Whether your home is that of one person yourself or more it is a big responsibility and an important one.

The rejection factor is great when making changes in your families nutrition for the better. Slow and little changes are better than fast and big changes when attempting to eat healthy. One of the changes made in my home is changing from white rice to brown rice.

What??? Brown rice? Yup and it is sooooo good. It took a few attempts to make it so that it wasnt all chewy and gritty. But I have figured it out and want to share it so you too can serve yummy, nutritious, and fiber rich brown rice.

Here is what you need: cake pan size 13x9, measuring cup, water, cube of chicken bouillon or chicken broth of your choice to equal 8oz of broth, foil, brown rice.

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

Measure out into cake pan 2 cups of brown rice. Plop a chicken bouillon cube smack into the middle of the rice, add 5 cups of water.

Cover tight with foil. Place into the oven and set the timer for 45 minutes. Do not stir during this time.
At the end of 45 minutes take out of the oven. Turn the oven up to 450 degrees. Stir the rice. Place the foil back onto the pan. Cook for another 15 minutes.

Viola! You will now have favorable fluffly brown rice. Cooking this way is so easy. You might (depending upon the amount of people you are serving) will have some left over for other meals during the week.

It is so good and easy you will feel great that you are taking such good care of your family. I hope you enjoy this way of making brown rice.

We love brown rice! Have you tried quinoa? It's a good rice alternative and my daughter loves it. :) I always cook rice and other grains in a can of diced tomatoes for extra flavor without a lot of extra salt.

love brown rice, but have never fixed in the oven - thanks for the tip!
Btw - when my kids were much younger (they're 19 and 20 now), and we got a babysitter for whatever reason, I would often buy 'tv dinners' for those nights. The kids got so excited - mom had gotten them the 'good' food. Now they can't wait til a college/home visit for the home cooked, nutritious stuff!
